How often should you sharpen feed mixer knives?
A dull knife does not fail all at once. You see it in extra minutes per batch and in a ration that comes out uneven. We protect your equipment before that costs you days of downtime.
How to tell when the knives are dull
- A batch takes 3 or 4 minutes longer than usual
- Long, uncut material remains near the top of the tub
- The tractor works harder with the same load
How often to inspect them
Under normal use, inspect them visually every 250 hours and sharpen or replace them between 800 and 1,200 hours, depending on the forage. Dry, fibrous forage calls for more frequent service.
What to do before the mixer goes down
Do not wait for an auger failure. A knife set replaced on time costs a fraction of a major repair. Review our service and maintenance plans or order the set directly through parts.
